Which is better?
Which is more practical?
Which is stylish?
Which takes more skill to use?
Which has more killing power?
Which one has more awesome fantasy variants?
Which one would you use?
Now take this into account.
This isn't just a real life sword vs gun battle.
This is discussing the entire concept of swords vs guns.
You can have Magical Swords vs a Missile launcher if you really wanted.
Now let's discuss.

I think that is well said.Swords seem to take more of an acrobatic finesse for mastery, while firearms take more of fine motor skills, dexterity. Both take about the same in terms of necessity of self-control.

Guns. There are so many types of guns that this is pretty much no contest. Up close, there are shotguns and things like that. Far away, there are rifles. Guns can have so much more range than swords that this question easily goes to guns.
Which is more practical?
Again, guns due to range. Also, pistols are incredibly small and easy to carry.
Which is stylish?
Tie. They're both incredibly stylish. There are legends about people who were stylish with both. Swords have masters like Miyamoto Musashi, while guns have masters like Annie Oakley.
Which takes more skill to use?
Swords, but only by an inch. Having had used both at least once, I can say that they're both suprisingly hard to use, but swords are a bit harder.
Which has more killing power?
Guns. Swords are powerful, but again, it all comes down to range. Also, some guns have an incredible firing rate, to the point where it just doesnt matter. For example, say you had a sword, and your opponent had an AA-12. No matter how good you are with a sword, your opponent is going to win.
Which one has more awesome fantasy variants?
Tie again. There are games like Final Fantasy that primarily have these incredible fantasy swords, but there are games like Gears of War and Halo that have chainsaw guns and lasers and pew pew pew.
Which one would you use?
A gun.
So guns win this for me, but I think we should all unite under the Gunblade.

Another gunblade lol.
Also swords are difficult to use.
Warriors would've taken their whole childhood to adulthood to master the blade.
Whereas Guns will take a couple of days maybe to understand the gun.
And as of right now, I'm pretty sure swords win when it comes to fantasy.
There are many, many enchanted swords with properties and godlike powers.
I have yet to see many guns do that besides boast high firing power and utilize armor piercing techniques.

But really, if we are talking about real life I prefer guns, loaded guns for that matter, swords need just as much or more cares than guns and you have to get yourself close to attack your target, which is an obvious disadvantage. In CQC the obvious weapon of choice is a sword though.
I love swords and blades, I really do. My favorite is the gladius or roman sword dunno the name in english, which is rumored to be the sword that has caused most casualties to date, in other words, the weapon that has globally killed most people (guns have probably killed more but not the same model, tee hee).

A world without gunpowder.
AKA No firearms or fireworks.
Heck, I'm not sure if explosives as they are today would exist.
I know for certain old cannons wouldn't exist.
