Now for all you guys who don't know Spelunky, it is a rogue-like platformer. You play as an nameless adventurer with a red nose(Mostly known as Spelunky) or even now in this version many more who enter upon the caverns in search of riches! However one may say that they have never seen a similar room, for walls seem to shift from time to time. Either way, that won't stop you from spelunking the depths of these strange ruins to obtain the ultimate of treasures! Can you make it that far, and even out alive?
Now for some of the many great features of Spelunky HD:
-Due to its rogue-like nature, each time you play the game every single room shall be different! This means you'll never play the exact same game when ever you start again, and trust me, you WILL be starting over again quite a bunch for Spelunky can be tough as nails. However the random levels constant keeps the game fresh and exciting, and it is not so random to the point where it starts up unbeatable. Not only that, but you can also run into some special level events which really add some special things to the stages. Really one of Spelunky's defining features!
-Fans of the original will be able to enjoy a fantastic remastering of the original with everything you love*hate*! Never has falling onto spikes nor getting Mantrapped felt so good. Not only that, but you'll be able enjoy the variety of new items and enemies they added which really spice things up. Some of the classic items also got revamped too so it is fun to see what they can do now!
-Extremely fluid controls! Grab onto ledges, pick up things like hairy cavemen, throw things, climb, and move! Not only is it fun to do such things, but everything controls like a dream, at least in my opinion it does.
-Fully destructible environments! That is right, the blocks all around you can be broken! Using tools such as bombs or a pickaxe you can form new pathways within the areas. Find that there is something up ahead that you don't want to personally deal with? With the right tools you can form a new path towards your goal, or you can even use them to get go about collecting extra gold or other goodies from closed-off areas which you can open up yourself!
-Tons of fun items to play around with! I have already spoke of some, but there is so much more in which some can drastically change the gameplay experience. For some quick ones, grab paste to make your bombs stick to where they are tossed at, or get special climbing gloves which give you the ability to cling onto any wall! Get ready to play with some interesting toys! (You can keep many of these items on at the same time by the way. The only ones that you can't are the weapons in which you can only carry one at a time)
-A fun new local multiplayer mode up to four players! You can now transverse the caves with some of your friends which really create for one heck of a crazy experience. Work together, or smack eachother silly (mostly to death), either way its fun! For those of you who rather take in the joy of just beating up your friends you can do so in the new deathmatch mode! Here you, your friends, and bots if you want can have fun trying to remain supreme over the others it this Bomber-esque muiltlayer mode! You have many stages to choose from (can even unlock a whole bunch more) and you can decide the amount of hearts, ropes, and bombs you can play with! Want to have a 99 bomb massacre? Set it up, and blow eachother away!
-Filled to the brim with tons of secrets! Those who dare venture to all the nooks and crannies of Spelunky shall find wonders which none could never imagine. Well, perhaps some could, but I can at least say there is quite a lot for you to unravel in the depths.
-Challenges your decisions making skills in such way it is inspiring! You'll have to make many choices to make in Spelunky, some can lead to great achievements, while others to your demise. Either way, once you start to learn many of the mechanics of Spelunky, you'll start to see the many paths you can take in all of runs to come.
Currently, yes, Spelunky HD is only on XBLA. When is it going to come out on any other systems? That question it unknown on the moment. It is something the developers would like to do, but those who don't have and Xbox360 will have to wait a bit unfortunately.
Now I currently must that I myself have personally play the game a whole lot, so I have seen many of the depths and know many of its secrets. If any of you want to know some tips and tricks, like on how to deal with some things, I'll be glad to share helpful information out with you guys because Spelunky can be quite troublesome at times. I won't spoil any of the secrets to you guys, unless you yourselves know them too in which we could discuss them then.
And with that, happy Spelunking everyone!
