Piracy

As piracy becomes more popular, the developers are making less money, and therefore they can't make as many new and innovative games.
So the pirates are really preventing themselves from getting a better quality product in the future.
I really don't see why people think pirating is okay. If you buy the game, not only are you supporting the creators of a game you like, but its also not illegal.
If anything, they need to find a way to track illegal downloads and fine the people who get them.

I'd much rather pay for something and get more creative games.
This is a pretty good idea.If anything, they need to find a way to track illegal downloads and fine the people who get them.
Agreed.Pirating games is just wrong. Really, it's shoplifting, without the physical taking the item. But in some aspects, I can see why pirating might be acceptable. Like if there's a couple CDs from a band you really like, but you can't find them anywhere, AND the band is no longer together

Obviously. You gotta stop it at the source. It would be almost impossible tracking everyone who pirates with the technology avaliable. That's well over a couple million people
Also, my friend has a device called an R4 for the DS, which lets him download any DS game that comes out, for free of course. He has a lot of games.

I heard about stuff like that.Obviously. You gotta stop it at the source.

My friend's brother actually has something similar, which stores several games, and let's him download any for free.
I'm just like.
And when I see him playing it I explain to him that he should just pay for the games.
Of course, he doesn't listen.

Its preety much as bad as buying used games from gamestop.
Except money goes towards gamestop.. which Im preety sure is more of a con then a pro.
Game companies are still making profit from Gamestop sales, otherwise there would be a major lawsuit.

Gamestop gets alot of $$ when they sell used games.
Why do you think they always pester you for used games? Gamestop employees are scored by their ammounts of reserves, subscriptions and selling/buying of used games.
Watched all the Zero Originality episodes.

But, to people saying stop it at the source, it's legal to download, say, a DS ROM or something, IF you legally own the game.
Same with pretty much anything.
Which is why they can't just stop the source, nor find people easily.

It's barely legal.I don't like piracy, really, at all...

The only way to have a legal ROM is if you do not play the ROM. For whatever reason, it's alright to have a backup ROM in case your original game is broken, but it is considered illegal if you actually play the ROM.

But that sounds hardly credible because it makes no sense at all

Aparently, in mexico nothing is illegal. My friend told me a while ago that downloading isn't illegal, only uploading is. And by that I mean seeding torrents. If you know how torrents work you know what I'm talking about.
But that sounds hardly credible because it makes no sense at all
Jokes aside, i hate book piracy with a passion.

Innovation wont die at the hands of piracy. The developers get paid by the company they are working for. Commission is only given to the top heads that spearhead the project such as the initial leaders of the infinity ward team. If you buy a game made by EA you're primarily supporting EA and the only thing you as the consumer are actually doing is providing a poll to help them decide if a sequel is necessary or not. There was an article in GamePro about how piracy effects both the company and the gamers themselves.

Also for those that can't afford new games and need to buy used games, guess what. Used game sales only support the retail store that sells them like Gamestop and the late Gamecrazy. I personally don't care about piracy and understand why some may practice it.

Fewer games sold = less money for developers
Less money for developers = fewer jobs
Your arguments there has so many holes in its its not even funny.

Piracy = fewer games sold (This is only a conjecture but sure some people wont buy and then others will.)
Fewer games sold = less money for developers (less commission for the top dogs actually. People get payed hourly for doing work by the company. Its not like payment directly correlates to game sales. Thanks for reading.)
Less money for developers = fewer jobs (less money for the already rich executives doesn't mean much. Find an article that explains the disappointment in a group of developers. Also in the video game business I noticed if you make a name for yourself as an individual that works well with a team the job thing isn't something to worry about. It's like Hollywood.)
I don't really get why you like to pick fights but whatever.

I won't say that game developers don't have a good time at their job, but they certainly aren't "rich."

You're possibly the most ignorant person I've ever met.
And thats not picking a fight, just telling you what I've noticed.

Yea you are right, but do you always have to show your proof in the douchiest way possible? Can't you ever just state your proof without trying to make the other person look like a complete idiot?
