Update 5: Infinite Wisdom is here!   10/05/2017

Hey everyone, We’re back with another update that really mixes some stuff up. An entirely new challenging mode, a rebalance of the entire game to go with the rework of the new leveling progression numbers, ability to do the co-op intro online, faster PVP rounds, language translations and more! With the rebalance you’ll find that your fighters are dealing even more damage as they gain experience. All balance changes are retro-active meaning you do not have to worry about starting over or starting new characters in order to experience that – they’re all dynamically applied to what you already have! Feel free to check out what we’ve changed in the list below, and as always – please leave us feedback about anything you find noteworthy. As always, the main Story (although not included in this update) is being developed alongside all these improvements we have been releasing. Check out our blog for the full changelist: http://blog.thebehemoth.com/2017/09/28/update-5-infinite-wisdom-is-here/

What We Want In Pit People

Recommended Posts

I see everything as blurred together(not literally); when traveling on the road it is hard to sometimes tell what is a wall or walkway, also I notice a lot of repetition, then when in combat it is hard to understand which hero you are controlling, this is the same for hero customization (I find myself exiting out accidently etc...), and finally the generic similar heroes(nothing really stands out and I question if we get any actual character progression). I just want to see those things attended to.

A magical map that reveals as you explore... it would reset with town reset/movement.

This would be to help with longer exploration times, be better than poop trails.

I want to be able to upgrade our caravan...

Let us change the model of it into different vehicles, maybe some different horse beasts. And of course increase the storage capacity.

I concur with the customizable caravan idea!

Aside from that maybe a side quest or mini game castle defense/invasion mode. Like the invading team gets a random catapult unit that shoots randomly into the defending team's castle walls or something, I feel like the random attack nature of the game could have fun with an idea like that, maybe add slight range "verticality" to the defending team, to balance it out.

Also any new creature units would be welcome, maybe a turtle like creature with slow movement but immense health/defense that acts as a taunt that enemies that are a certain hexagon count away are unavoidably drawn to him or something. Maybe even add orcs, which can be a 3rd humanoid type fighter with less movement than humans but more attack/defense.

Last character ideas, a playing card unit that can be either an archer or melee unit, and would be strong against maces/mallets but weak to swords, aside from that I'd like the Giraffe/Speckled horse to be a unit in game, maybe take 2 party spaces like the cyclops and hair troll, and its deal could be that it would use its neck as a weapon hitting multiple units at once, but it wouldn't do as much damage as it's other 2-space counterparts, maybe make it weak to electricity since the shock messes with its head antennas. Anyhow, not sure if this will even be seen, but it was certainly fun to think up, maybe make party sizes 7 units just to mix and match some more, buuut that could bust the balance.

I love Pit People. It is great fun. I talked about the game at length here. In this article, I'm basically writing a letter to the developers that they shall read and definitely listen to, in regards to what I think will make Pit People even better.

First, let me again say how much I have been enjoying the game so far. If my 30+ hours and only ~20% completion is any indication, I have lots more to enjoy in the future. Allow me the chance to subtly suggest and not threaten the developers with ways that could improve their wonderful game.

1. More Stamper. Part of what made Battleblock Theater so entertaining was the constant narration of Stamper making fun of and yelling at you. It really made the game shine. All of the limited story we have had so far was amazing, but the rest of the game did not showcase Stamper nearly enough. I want to hear more from him in the Pit, for example, or around the map. Please add more.

2. More Story. The story is awesome so far, and you've said you will be adding more. I hope it's lots more, because I am really enjoying it thus far.

3. Better Descriptions - The game as is is not very beginner friendly. I had to play a lot before I figured out how the game works. There needs to be some more tips or ways of showing you how to do things. Something as simple as informing you that most of the gear and weapons are cosmetic, and that the only difference is the class of weapon and maybe an element or special ability attached to it. While we're at it, I wouldn't mind a more thorough and precise look at what the various weapons do add to your characters. They showcase a lot already, but I would like to be told that smaller swords hit twice, or that throwing axes give you a chance to riposte an enemy that attacks adjacent to you. Also it'd be nice to see exactly how far some of the ranged units can get.

4. Leveling - It is an odd thing right now it the Pit in PVP or PVE that a lower leveled team actually performs better than a higher one. Since a lower leveled team lvls up more in a match, it performs consistently better, despite the high lvled team having boosted stats. I like the lvling mechanic with the healing and everything, but my higher lvled team should be better, not worse. My suggestion is to make all characters level up the same no matter what level they are. The jump from level 1 to 2 should take the same experience as 90-91. That would make it even across the board and give higher leveled teams a slight boost.

5. Variety in the marketplace and customization - Perhaps I have not visited enough, but there seems to be limited variety in the marketplace. It's almost always just humans. I think I saw a Unicorn once, but it'd be nice if the other creatures got showcased in the marketplace.

6. Customization - Could we get some more customizable options when it comes to the nonhumans? The humans get tons of awesome stuff, and I love that, but a lot of the other races do not have nearly enough in my opinion. The hairy trolls only get different heads? Can we have different hair styles or maybe even different hair colors at least? Maybe different expressions? I love the little Kobolds, can we have more than just backpack changes? Little stuff like that. Also, we could use multiple skins of capturing nets. Pokeballs, minicages, beartraps, ghostbuster traps, whatever. They could just be different skins and function just the same. I'd just like more customs. Also steampunk items.

7. Equipping - This has to do with equipping your characters. Right now you have to load up a character, unequip all of their stuff, load up a different character, THEN give them the items. This is a little clunky. Can't a team have access to your entire inventory? You can only have 1 team active at once. If you only have 1 obsidian sword, then only 1 person on a team can have it, but allow us to equip it onto 1 person on each team so we can save some time.

8. More caravan item slots - Can we get some more slots for our caravans while we explore? You fight one time and your inventory is like 75% full. I don't want to have to keep going back to the base or risk losing treasure. It also would make items like the campfire and resurrection more useful, since right now you basically have to go back to town anyway after a battle.

9. Autoplay mode - I love that addition. Please don't change it. It is definitely not an advantage as if you play someone else, they should really be able to win.

10. Music - I would like the ability to change the music while on the big map. The western theme got very old. I liked the title music, I wouldn't mind hearing that more often in the game. It seems like you have a variety of songs available in the town, I hope we can expand that to other parts of the game as well.

Make a board game of Pit People - This game could translate into a board game so easy. Take a cue from the guys who make League of Legends and make a board game of Pit People. That would be awesome. Hex based combat works very well. You could have Lego-like figures to customize a team's look. Heck, you could act the devil and make booster packs with items in them. Dice based combat would probably be best. If you ever need some help developing it, I would be glad to help. I am heavily invested in the board game community and have a lot of experience in them.

The loot is almost purely aesthetic. It feels almost wrong to get a new mace and be disappointed because it makes no difference whether I use that or the beginner's mace you get from king pepepoopoo.

I'd like to be able to choose from Ice Cream Colors which increase my healer's health, or lower it's health but make it take less/no damage from healing or even remove it's self healing but greatly improve it's heal-rate.

Hello ladies and gentleman,

I saw that there are many many humans in the game which can carry a lot of different weapon types.

So what do you think about them having a specific weapon type which they can handle better ( -> maybe less weight, 1 more damage) and as debuff they are a bit weaker with some other weapon types.

That would make the game a bit more extensive.

Thanks for reading and hopefully adding it :)

Oh and sorry for the new post, I actually don't know how to edit my post :'D

I forgot to say that it would be pretty nice to have more optimization varieties at the bodies of human, so they can look more like a knight, not like a farmer with a big shield and a big helmet^^

Thanks again.

I like this idea, but I find that it might confuse newer players, complicate trading and require a lot of reprogramming, so I've come up with this simpler alternative:

If the player would equip an item "X" to a character "A", but all copies of item X are already in use on different characters; then if possible, take X from some other character "B" and give to A, and give B a replacement, such as whichever corresponding item A held.

  • Do show that all copies of X are in use - like currently - but use a different icon that suggests that the item can be chosen anyway.
  • If multiple copies of X are owned, but all are in use on other characters, choose character to take it from in this order:
    1. A character that is not assigned to any team
    2. A character that is not assigned to the currently selected team
    3. A different character on the current team
    4. This same character (character A) (in case some character type is eventually able to hold two items of the same category)
  • Whenever an item is moved like this, display a message like "X was moved from B to A and replaced with Box Cutter.", but without opening a obnoxious message box for it.

This would also help mitigate another, more significant, problem I've observed in the "Let's Play" crowd:
Seemingly nobody knows that the Net can be moved from Sofia to other characters.
But if you could equip it without explicitly un-equipping it first, like I and gamjuven suggest you should, then the "Net" weapon type would be visible for other characters from the get-go, and more people would realize that this option exists.

I would prefer a system where it works almost as it does currently but it will allow you to select items that are all equipped on different fighters, just when you try to equip it it has a pop-up prompt with something along the lines of "equipping this item will remove it from ___ fighter. Proceed?" then a yes/no option. Or potentially a list of fighters that have the item equipped with the ability to select who to remove it from.

That's basically what I said, (except you did it much quicker), except without prompting the player if he/she is sure about removing it from another character. I think being prompted every time would just be annoying. If instead you 1) put an icon on the item to warn that it will be taken from someone else, 2) tell the player whom the item was taken from, and 3) always take the item from a character that's not in use, if possible, then I think that would work slightly better than that.

I do commend you for saying more or less what I spend an entire page on in just three lines, though :-o:-).

I really like the game but now that I have discovered that I can only play with a single friend in co-op I'm not sure whether to refund or pray that there will be an update..

I want the bear to be the constant announcer for all the games. I love the quips and funny quotes. I know he is the voice from the stamper in BB. I want to hear his voice constantly, it's one of my favorite parts of the game.

I would love to see another three slot unit, like a giant robot or a baby Chog. :3

I also feel like we need more high-tech variants of different weapon types that function in unique ways, like those amazing blaster guns and energy explosion mortars.

Would love to see some unique items with possibly some special attributes. I had a few in mind. A helmet called The Hive that is a bee hive, and has an on hit chance to swarm and damage enemies. Snake Charmer helmet that has a chance to charm enemies that attack the wearer and will fight for your team for the next turn. Could think of some more, but those are just a couple. Some more weapons would be great, maybe whips and spears that have a 2 tile attack range and maybe spears could have a knock-back feature and whips could pull enemies. Just a few ideas to maybe add some more strategy and team comps to the game.

Just... half the music is good but the other half.... ugh. I LOVED the Castle Crashers soundtrack, still listen to it. But the here, battle music where the girl just repeats the word "time" (I think?) over and over, and the one where someone is just screaming into autotune... I literally have to mute it.
