I couldn't beat the second level either. I eventually gave up and then came back to the game one year later; and then for some reason I beat the whole game without dying once! (Except on the last boss ) I'm planning on coming back to the game one day so I can beat it on easy and hard (already beat normal) and to get all the hats.

I beat the game on easy and normal so far.  It usually takes 10-15 minutes per level, but it depends on the level.
