gimp tips?

i downloaded this to try my hand at drawing something good lol and wondered if anyone has some tips for using gimp?

When you downloaded it, you should have also gotten a downloaded manual. Try that and the help icon. I'm not sitting in front of it so I can't be of much more assistance. Sorry.

To change colors, all you have to do is click the Black Box (With the White one behind it) it'll bring up a pop-up to change the color

You know how to change the brush don't you?

You click the box that has a little circle in it; you can get many different styles from that

Close to it you should see something that says 'opacity' that decides how faint or solid the brush is

And below that is the Size tool, it should have a bar but I don't usually use that. I usually use size 0.40 brush when using GIMP

Another good shading tool is the dodge & burn tool. I use it in most of my drawings. In fact, I'll post mine now!

Depends on the type for shading you want. You can add more to the color scale to make that same color darker and give it the cartoonish look. Or like Spartan said, you can use something like the burn tool to help.
