Scientifically speaking, black absorbs all visible wavelengths of light, which effectively keeps all visible light from reaching the eye. White reflects every color, which gives an equal impression of all visible light on the eye. So really, it depends on if you're talking about how we perceive color or what actually happens when visible light hits objects.

Why does no one use colored text anymore?

I do use colored text. This is called black my friend, and it IS a color.

Regardless of whether you're just trying to bait someone into saying this, black is actually the absence of color.

I actually just did a paper on this recently. Black is not the absent of color but the absent of light. Color is what our brain perceives through our eyes based on light that is or is not captured.

The misnomer comes from the fact that all visible light is absorbed by black and people assume that color is only the light that we see. However it also the light that we can not see and that's why black is color.

This is true; most black inks that are currently in use are not actually black, it's just ouside of the spectrum of lights that the human eyes can percieve. Some other sentient animals would percieve it at blue, or red in some rare case. At least, that's what my physics teacher told me a few years ago.

I don't know how I'm going to live without internet for a whole 5 days.

Save images and videos from the internet on any media player you may own; specifically, you might want to get a good 40 - 50 music videos.

Otherwise, you could play video games; they're very fun.

Alright chumps, settle down for a very quick physics note.

We see black on things, such as dyed shirts, or inks themselves, because they do not reflect any colors from the spectrum of visible light. They may reflect other types of light from the electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves, infrared, ultraviolet, etc.), but all of the visible light spectrum is absorbed. This is why we perceive them as black.

When we're not talking about physics, and we get into the art real, black is a color. It still shows as black for the reasons described, but for all intents and purposes, black is recognized as a color in the art world.

Black is not the absent of color but the absent of light.

That's what I meant. Everything we see is light.

"I see," said the blind man.

To his deaf wife.

You guys brought this upon yourselves, since it now is stuck in my head:

One bright day in the middle of the night,

Two dead boys got up to fight.

Back to back, they faced each other,

Drew their swords and shot one-another.

A deaf policeman heard the noise

And tried to save the two dead boys.

If you don't believe this lie is true,

Ask the blind man, he saw it too.

Nope, that's the version I learned, so as a result, there is no other version.  Because I know everything.

To think that this thread is still kicking, holy cow.

The forum isn't totally dead.

The forum is certainly still alive :). I was referring to this thread in particular, and I'm honestly not surprised it's still around. I just remember when it was first made. It's a little nostalgia mixed with fascination.

Random thought:

I've been a member on this forum for almost a quarter of my life (5 of 23 years).

5 of almost 20 years here.

This post makes me feel like I have squandered a fourth of my life.

edit: also hi fiddler i missed you please never leave again

Welcome back, fiddler. You should go back to the "homosexuality: is it wrong?" thread, you're going to travel to your past.
